Newham College is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of every student, staff and visitor in line with the statutory guidance ‘Keeping Children Safe In Education‘
What is Safeguarding?
Safeguarding is the process of creating an environment for all students and staff that actively prevents harm, harassment, bullying, abuse and neglect. The College expects all staff, volunteers and visitors to respect and engage with this commitment.
Our policy on peer-to-peer and sexual harassment and what can be done if these behaviours are witnessed or experienced are detailed here.
What is Prevent?
The Prevent duty is part of the overall counter-terrorism strategy designed to reduce the threat from terrorism through prevention.
Complying with the Prevent duty includes promoting and exemplifying British values: i.e. democracy, rule of law, individual liberty, tolerance and mutual respect and different faiths and beliefs.

Your safety is very important to us. If you feel unsafe or at risk, whether inside or outside of the College, please contact a member of the safeguarding team using one of the following methods:
- Press the ‘Confide’ button in the bottom right-hand corner of the screen of the college-issued device you are using.
- Email us at safeguarding@newham.ac.uk.
- Call the Safeguarding Team on 0208 257 4146
- Visit us in person in the Student Services department at either East Ham campus (ground floor behind the stairwell) or next to Admissions at Stratford campus (left of the foyer).
