Newham College’s mission is to develop the skills, confidence and qualifications for local people to

This policy supports our key strategic commitment to create pathways to great careers in Newham
and East London through expert teaching of a modern, relevant curriculum focused on the strongest
opportunities for sustainable employment.

Newham College is committed to recruiting learners on the basis of their merit and potential
and preparing them for work, citizenship and personal development. All applications are considered on their individual merits and treated in a fair and equal way, based on the information provided to the College through the application process.

The gender pay gap is a measure of labour market or workplace disadvantage, expressed in terms of a comparison between men’s and women’s average hourly rates of pay. So, while it is about pay, it’s also about other factors, such as occupational segregation, or the fact that in the main it’s women who look after children and other dependants.

Schools and colleges have a statutory duty to safeguard and promote the welfare of the children and young people at their school/college. As part of this duty, schools and colleges are required to have regard to guidance issued by the Secretary of State. All schools and colleges must have regard to Keeping Children Safe in Education and Working Together to Safeguarding Children.

The Student Code of Conduct sets out college expectations so that life at college is productive, rewarding and helps prepare you for the work environment. We reserve the right to take disciplinary action against any student who fails to comply, which could lead to permanent exclusion from the College.

This policy is made pursuant to Section 54 part 6 of the Modern Slavery Act 2015 and sets out the
steps that Newham College has taken to ensure that slavery and human trafficking are not taking
place in our supply chains or in any part of our business.
