Our ESOL courses are suitable for non-native speakers of English and are offered at different college centres throughout Newham so you can be sure there’s a learning centre near you.

Young ESOL
ESOL Programmes

The Young ESOL study programme is designed for students aged 16-18 and is suitable for non-native speakers of English. It is a full-time programme and courses are offered from Pre-Entry Level to Level 1.
The study programme includes:
- Functional Skills Maths and Functional Skills ICT
- Group tutorials and 1:1
- Vocational taster sessions
- Work experience in local industries and abroad are also available
Newham is one of the most successful providers of ESOL with our students having one of the highest progression rates compared to any other college in London. Many progress into successful careers or further education.
The ESOLY department works closely with many vocational areas including Health & Social Care, Engineering, Construction, Fashion & Tailoring, Catering & Hospitality, Digital Skills & IT, Travel & Tourism, and Childcare. After successful completion of the Young ESOL study programme, you can progress to one of these vocational areas, Pre-access or Access.

Our adult ESOL programmes are designed to be flexible, fitting around your particular commitments and circumstances with morning, afternoon and evening classes available from a number of learning centres around Newham.
We offer Ascentis qualifications in Entry Level Awards, and Level 1 and 2 awards in English for reading, writing, speaking and listening. Adult ESOL courses are usually free for most students subject to submission of suitable evidence at enrolment. Courses run for 12 weeks unless stated otherwise.
We also offer ESOL Employability, a 12-week course specifically focused on getting you the skills you need to find sustainable employment.

IELTS (International English Language Testing System) is designed to test the language ability of people who want to study or work where English is used as the language of communication. We offer short courses throughout the year to help you prepare for your test.
