Policing and Uniformed Services Level 3
Course content
The study programme requires you to develop transferable and higher-order skills, such as research, presentation, communication, discipline, the ability to be resourceful and work collaboratively, that are highly regarded by higher education and employers. In the final year of your Policing and Uniform Services course you will study Criminology as an additional qualification. Your programme carries UCAS points and is recognised by higher-education providers. Students can progress to higher education in a range of disciplines, for example:
- BA (Hons) in Criminology
- BSc (Hons) in Fire and Rescue
- BA (Hons) in Social Work
- BA (Hons) in Sociology
- BA (Hons) in Public Services
- BA (Hons) in Policing
- LLB (Hons) in Law
Curriculum
Our students are part of the first response services in particular Police Cadets and take part in a minimum of 1.5 voluntary hours weekly developing skills, knowledge and behaviours through:
- Rank Structures
- Phonetic alphabet
- Radio procedure
- Pocket boom rules
- Bullying / Cyber bullying
- Basic First Aid
- Personal Safety and Attestation
The study programme is a 2-year course which gives you the knowledge, understanding and skills needed within the public services industry. As part of the study programme, you will conduct a two-week work placement, participate in a range of enrichment activities for the college and local community.

- Behaviour and Discipline in the Uniformed Protective Services
- Global Affairs, the Media and the Uniformed Protective Services
- Government and the Protective Services
- Introduction to Criminology
- Police Powers and the Law
- Criminal Investigation Procedures and Practice
- Changing Awareness of Crime
- Criminological Theories
- Crime Scene to Courtroom
- Crime and Punishment
This study programme will allow you to develop an understanding of a substantial body of knowledge relating to government and the wider uniformed protective services sector, and to consider current affairs and the media in a global context. It will help you to develop the essential skills and knowledge identified in the sector, such as research, presentation and report-writing skills, as well as the important skills of discipline, teamwork, communication, the sensitivity and openness required to work with diverse groups and the ability to work collaboratively.
