About the course

This course is an excellent starting point if you’re interested in a career in the sport, fitness or leisure industries. With a focus on health, fitness and exercise, you’ll learn about the structure and function of the human body, how it supports movement in sport, and how to improve performance through training and nutrition. You’ll also have the opportunity to develop leadership skills by working with young people in the community and gaining valuable work experience in the sports sector.

Entry requirements

  • GCSE profile: Successful completion of a range of GCSEs, including English Language or Maths at grade 3 and one other related subject at grade 3 or above.
  • Ongoing English and Maths: All students studying at Level 2 will continue to work towards GCSE English and/or Maths if they have not yet achieved a grade 4.
  • Additional checks: A Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check is required for this course. This will be arranged by the College at the start of your programme. The cost is £20 (non-refundable).
  • Suitability: Ideal for students with a strong interest in sport, fitness and physical activity who wish to develop practical and theoretical knowledge for progression to a Level 3 qualification or related career.

Progression

Successful completion of this course allows you to progress to the Level 3 Extended Diploma in Sports Development, Coaching and Fitness, where you can further develop your practical and theoretical skills.

From there, you can progress to university study or move into employment in areas such as coaching, fitness instruction, sports development or leisure management.
