Course content
Develop your creative skills in drawing, painting, 3D design and graphics while exploring key art movements and design styles. You’ll take part in exhibitions and gain valuable industry experience to prepare for your next step in the creative sector.
During the course, you’ll explore topics such as:
- 2D and 3D visual language, materials, techniques and technology
- Drawing and design development
- Graphics, textiles and 3D design
You’ll also have the opportunity to:
- Create your own art and design portfolio
- Develop research and critical thinking skills
- Visit galleries and exhibitions for creative inspiration
- Work with professional artists and designers — past students have collaborated with 3D animators, storyboard artists, printmakers and fashion designers

Open Events at Newham CollegeEntry requirements
- GCSE profile: Minimum 4 GCSEs at grades 9–3 (or equivalent), including English and maths at grade 3 or above; or successful completion of a related Level 1 qualification.
- Initial assessment and interview: You’ll complete an English and maths assessment and take part in an interview to confirm the right starting level for your study programme.
- English and maths during your course: If you haven’t yet achieved grade 4 in English and/or maths, you’ll continue studying these alongside your main qualification.
- Suitability: Positive attitude to learning, regular attendance, and the ability to work safely and professionally with others.
- Placement checks (if required): For courses that include a work placement, a DBS check may be required by the placement provider.
- Interest in digital content creation and media production.
