About the course

This course is ideal if you enjoy sport and physical activity and want to develop your knowledge, fitness and practical skills in the sports sector. It provides an introduction to sport, coaching and the wider sports and fitness industry.

During the course, you will explore how sport supports health, wellbeing and teamwork. You will take part in a range of practical activities while learning the basic principles of training, coaching and working within the sports sector.

The course combines practical sports participation with classroom learning, helping you develop confidence, teamwork and communication skills while gaining an understanding of careers in sport and fitness.

Entry requirements

Entry requirements

  • GCSE profile: Minimum 4 GCSEs at grades 9–3 (or equivalent), including English and Maths at grade 3 or above; or successful completion of a relevant Entry Level qualification.
  • Initial assessment and interview: You will complete an English and maths assessment and attend an interview to confirm the right starting level.
  • Suitability: Interest in sport, physical activity and teamwork, with a willingness to take part in practical activities.
  • English and Maths: Applicants who meet all other requirements but do not yet have the required English or Maths grade may still be considered for a place, on the condition that they study and achieve this qualification alongside their main course. Final decisions are made by the senior course leader.
  • Additional: Suitable sports clothing may be required for practical sessions.
