About the course

This course is ideal if you are interested in film, photography, design or digital media and want to develop your creative and technical skills. It provides an introduction to how media products are created and how the media industry operates.

During the course, you will explore a range of media forms including film, photography, digital design and online media. You will learn how to generate ideas, plan creative projects and produce your own media content using digital tools.

The course combines practical activities with research and experimentation, helping you develop creativity, communication and teamwork skills while beginning to build a portfolio of media work.

Entry requirements

  • GCSE profile: Minimum 4 GCSEs at grades 9–3 (or equivalent), including English and Maths at grade 3 or above; or successful completion of a relevant Entry Level qualification.
  • Initial assessment and interview: You will complete an English and maths assessment and attend an interview to confirm the right starting level.
  • Suitability: Interest in media, digital technology and creative projects, with a willingness to develop new skills.
  • English and Maths: Applicants who meet all other requirements but do not yet have the required English or Maths grade may still be considered for a place, on the condition that they study and achieve this qualification alongside their main course. Final decisions are made by the senior course leader.
  • Additional: Bringing examples of creative or digital work to interview is recommeded but not essential.
