About the course

This course is ideal if you want to develop practical construction skills and explore a career in bricklaying. It provides an introduction to the construction industry and the techniques used to build walls and structures.

During the course, you will learn the basic skills used in brickwork while working in a workshop environment that reflects real construction settings. You will develop confidence working with construction tools, materials and equipment while learning how to work safely on site.

The course combines practical bricklaying activities with classroom learning, helping you develop technical ability, teamwork and problem-solving skills while preparing you for further study in construction.

Entry requirements

  • GCSE profile: Minimum 4 GCSEs at grades 9–3 (or equivalent), including English and Maths at grade 3 or above; or successful completion of a relevant Entry Level qualification.
  • Initial assessment and interview: You will complete an English and maths assessment and attend an interview to confirm the right starting level.
  • Suitability: Interest in practical construction work and building skills.
  • English and Maths: Applicants who meet all other requirements but do not yet have the required English or Maths grade may still be considered for a place, on the condition that they study and achieve this qualification alongside their main course. Final decisions are made by the senior course leader.
  • Additional: Suitable clothing and safety footwear may be required for workshop activities.

This course is free for students aged 16-18. The course fee for adults (19+) is TBC.
