About the course

Build on your foundation skills and take your next step towards a career in Hairdressing. This Level 2 course develops your confidence, creativity and technical ability while deepening your understanding of the professional salon environment. You’ll learn how to deliver high-quality client services, master a range of advanced styling and colouring techniques, and prepare for employment or progression to a Level 3 Hairdressing qualification.

During the course, you’ll explore topics such as:

  • Health and safety in the salon
  • Advising and consulting with clients
  • Shampooing and conditioning hair
  • Promoting salon products and services
  • Cutting and styling women’s and men’s hair
  • Advanced colouring techniques and finishing services
  • Working with Afro and textured hair types
  • Creating a professional image and personal style

You’ll also have the opportunity to:

  • Gain hands-on experience in our commercial salons at the East Ham Campus

Entry requirements

  • GCSE profile: Minimum 4 GCSEs at grades 9–3 (or equivalent), including English and maths at grade 3 or above; or successful completion of a related Level 1 qualification.
  • Initial assessment and interview: You’ll complete an English and maths assessment and take part in an interview to confirm the right starting level for your study programme.
  • English and maths during your course: If you haven’t yet achieved grade 4 in English and/or maths, you’ll continue studying these alongside your main qualification.
  • Suitability: Positive attitude to learning, regular attendance, and the ability to work safely and professionally with others.
  • Placement checks (if required): For courses that include a work placement, a DBS check may be required by the placement provider.
  • Commitment to professional appearance; a kit/uniform may be required.
