Hair and Beauty Level 1 - September 2025
Course content
You'll be taught by our highly skilled team of professional Hairdressing staff in specialist studios at East Ham campus. Practical assessments take place throughout the year on paying clients. During the course, you will produce a portfolio of evidence containing both practical and theory work.
If you wish to gain valuable insight into the Hair and Beauty industry, then this is the course for you. You will develop basic skills and relevant industry knowledge, through experiential learning of selected techniques and products.
This course is designed for individuals who wish to achieve the basic skills required for progression in the hairdressing or beauty industry from junior level. It will ensure you are on the right path in developing sufficient communication and occupational skills for progression onto a Level 2 hairdressing or beauty related programme.
At the next level you will develop skills such as blow-drying, styling, dressing long hair, doing hair treatments, facials, make-up, manicure, pedicure, waxing and teamwork. Students who wish to develop their literacy skills will also benefit, as this subject will be embedded within the vocational course.
You will be retaking your Maths and English as part of your course to enable you to progress onto Level 2 qualifications.
Work experience
As part of the programme, you will conduct a two-week work placement in a Business and Enterprise organisation/field of your choice. This will allow you to apply your theoretical knowledge into a practical work setting.
Enrichment Activities
A range of enrichment activities are incorporated within the programme. Examples of enrichment activities included lectures by guest speakers, sharing their knowledge and experience with you and visits to various industry leaders.
You will have an opportunity to participate in internal and external events where you will be able to showcase your skills.
I-Learning sessions
This is additional time embedded in your programme for your study to promote independent learning. This time is used to work through assignments, complete homework activities and conduct wider reading and research.
