About the course

The BTEC Level 3 in Engineering is a nationally recognised work-related qualification, which encompasses mechanical and electrical elements designed to give you a good start on your journey to a career in engineering. The course is based around examined units and internally assessed assignment lead units that are aligned to realistic vocational situations, activities and demands. The course will introduce you to and prepare you for the engineering work place.

You will develop an understanding of the engineering principles, application and processes used in engineering. You will also extend the practical and work experience skills that you will have gained by completing a Level 2 extended certificate or diploma in Engineering.

You will be involved in studying mechanical, electrical and electronic principles and applications; in addition to communication techniques, engineering drawing and computer-aided design.

There will be an emphasis on working safely, whilst gaining knowledge of the tools, equipment, principles and processes that are used within the engineering industry alongside health and safety in the workplace.

Your work will be assessed, through the completion of assignments, projects, practical tasks and exams.
