Course content

Develop your scientific knowledge and practical skills with this one-year Level 2 Extended Certificate in Applied Science. You’ll explore how science is applied in real-world settings through hands-on experiments and investigations in biology, chemistry and physics. This course provides the essential foundation for progression to Level 3 study or employment within the science and health sectors.

Entry requirements

Entry requirements

  • GCSE profile: Minimum 4 GCSEs at grades 9–3 (or equivalent), including English and maths at grade 3 or above; or successful completion of a related Level 1 qualification.
  • Initial assessment and interview: You’ll complete an English and maths assessment and take part in an interview to confirm the right starting level for your study programme.
  • English and maths during your course: If you haven’t yet achieved grade 4 in English and/or maths, you’ll continue studying these alongside your main qualification.
  • Suitability: Positive attitude to learning, regular attendance, and the ability to work safely and professionally with others.
  • Placement checks (if required): For courses that include a work placement, a DBS check may be required by the placement provider.
  • GCSE Science at grade 3 (Double Award 3/3) preferred.
