About the course

Bespoke tailoring is a highly-skilled, specialist profession that involves exacting standards of expertise and reliability. This course builds on the experience gained studying on the Pre-Apprentice Level 1 course, or through previous experience in tailoring.

You will learn in a variety of ways - through talks and demonstrations, by completing practical tasks and exercises, by independent study and by evaluation and assessment of your work. The course includes industry research and report writing, and identifying the employment role that best suits your abilities and aspirations. English, maths and IT will form an integral part of your studies on the course.

The course is based at Newham College's East Ham Campus in modern, well-equipped garment production and pattern cutting workshops.

You will receive a full introduction to how the course operates at the beginning of the course.

Why study with us

Good career prospects are available in tailoring and garment production – there is a shortage of people who can make high-quality garments.

This course will provide you with the skills and understanding you need for employment as an apprenticeship and will help you develop your career in bespoke tailoring or garment production.

Entry requirements

You will need to have bespoke tailoring skills at Level 1, preferably have studied tailoring at Level 1 and have made a bespoke waistcoat and know the hand bespoke tailoring stitches.

How much will this course cost?

The course is free for students aged 16-18. The course fee for adults (19+) is TBC

Progression

The course will develop your understanding of the industry. It will enable you to learn about the tailoring craft skills that are required for junior levels of employment in tailoring. Alternatively you may decide to continue your studies in order to develop your skills at a level that is more advanced.

Further study on the Advanced Tailoring and Garment Production Diploma Level 3 will open up additional career opportunities, including employment in costume, fashion production, managerial roles and self-employment.
