Course content
Take your next step towards becoming a qualified plumber with this practical Level 2 Plumbing course. You’ll build on your existing knowledge to develop the technical, scientific and customer service skills required for work in the plumbing and building services industry. The course combines classroom learning with hands-on experience to prepare you for an apprenticeship, employment or progression to Level 3 study.
During the course, you’ll explore topics such as:
- Electrical principles and processes for building services engineering
- Scientific principles for domestic, industrial and commercial plumbing
- Health, safety and environmental awareness
- Cold and hot water systems
- Sanitation and drainage systems
- Central heating systems and controls
- Customer relations and professional communication

Open Events at Newham CollegeEntry requirements
- GCSE profile: Minimum 4 GCSEs at grades 9–3 (or equivalent), including English and maths at grade 3 or above; or successful completion of a related Level 1 qualification.
- Initial assessment and interview: You’ll complete an English and maths assessment and take part in an interview to confirm the right starting level for your study programme.
- English and maths during your course: If you haven’t yet achieved grade 4 in English and/or maths, you’ll continue studying these alongside your main qualification.
- Suitability: Positive attitude to learning, regular attendance, and the ability to work safely and professionally with others.
- Placement checks (if required): For courses that include a work placement, a DBS check may be required by the placement provider.
- Strong numeracy; GCSE Maths grade 4 preferred for technical routes.
How much will this course cost?
This course is free for students aged 16-18. The course fee for adults is TBC.
