About the course

Take the next step towards a career in the Uniformed Public Services. This Level 2 course builds on your existing knowledge and develops the practical, physical and leadership skills needed for roles in Policing, Law Enforcement, the Armed Forces, Intelligence Services, the Fire and Ambulance Services, the Prison Service, the Coastguard and the RAF.

During the course, you’ll explore topics such as:

  • Teamwork, leadership and communication in public services
  • Health, fitness and wellbeing for entry into uniformed services
  • Citizenship, diversity and the role of government
  • Crime and its effects on society
  • Career planning and personal development

You’ll also have the opportunity to:

Entry requirements

  • GCSE profile: Minimum 4 GCSEs at grades 9–3 (or equivalent), including English and maths at grade 3 or above; or successful completion of a related Level 1 qualification.
  • Initial assessment and interview: You’ll complete an English and maths assessment and take part in an interview to confirm the right starting level for your study programme.
  • English and maths during your course: If you haven’t yet achieved grade 4 in English and/or maths, you’ll continue studying these alongside your main qualification.
  • Suitability: Positive attitude to learning, regular attendance, and the ability to work safely and professionally with others.
  • Placement checks (if required): For courses that include a work placement, a DBS check may be required by the placement provider.
  • Ability to participate in teamwork and outdoor/practical activities.
