About the course
The course will focus on the development of your skills in English, Maths and IT.
On this course you will:
- Work in groups on projects
- Work independently
- Make presentations to the rest of the class
You will also have 1 hour of tutorial per week.
You will be expected to take part in enrichment activities at Newham College for your own development and enjoyment.
You'll have an opportunity for 2 weeks of work experience in the industry of your choice.

- ESOL Award in Speaking and Listening (Level 1)
- ESOL Award in Reading (Level 1)
- ESOL Award in Writing (Level 1)
- Functional Skills Maths (Level 1 or higher)
- Functional Skills ICT (Level 1 or higher)

If English is your second language and you have been learning to read, write and speak English at school in your country, then this course may be right for you. This full-time course aims to develop your writing, reading and speaking skills and prepare you for further study and work.
You will also improve your maths and computing skills too.
Entry requirements
There are no formal entry requirements for this course but you must be 16-18 years of age.
You will be given an initial assessment at your interview to look at your level of English. This will help us to put you into the right class.
