Course content
Build on your existing knowledge and practical skills with this Level 2 Engineering course. You’ll develop a deeper understanding of mechanical, electrical and electronic engineering, learning how to apply mathematical and scientific principles to real-world projects. This course prepares you for employment, an apprenticeship, or progression to Level 3 study in Engineering or related disciplines.
During the course, you’ll explore topics such as:
- Mathematics for engineering applications
- Health and safety in engineering environments
- Engineering design and problem solving
- Computer-aided engineering (CAD and CAM)
- Electrical and mechanical science
- Engineering materials and manufacturing processes
- Electrical circuit design and construction

Entry requirements
- GCSE profile: Minimum 4 GCSEs at grades 9–3 (or equivalent), including English and maths at grade 3 or above; or successful completion of a related Level 1 qualification.
- Initial assessment and interview: You’ll complete an English and maths assessment and take part in an interview to confirm the right starting level for your study programme.
- English and maths during your course: If you haven’t yet achieved grade 4 in English and/or maths, you’ll continue studying these alongside your main qualification.
- Suitability: Positive attitude to learning, regular attendance, and the ability to work safely and professionally with others.
- Placement checks (if required): For courses that include a work placement, a DBS check may be required by the placement provider.
- Strong numeracy; GCSE Maths grade 4 preferred for technical routes.
How much will this course cost?
This course is free for students aged 16-18. The course fee for adults (19+) is TBC.
