Course content
Advance your skills and technical knowledge with this Level 2 Motor Vehicle course. Building on your Level 1 learning, you’ll develop the practical and diagnostic abilities needed to service, maintain and repair modern vehicles. The course provides a strong foundation for an apprenticeship, employment or progression to Level 3 study in automotive engineering or vehicle technology.
During the course, you’ll explore topics such as:
- Health and safety in the automotive environment
- Light vehicle maintenance and repair procedures
- Vehicle servicing and inspection techniques
- Chassis components maintenance and repair
- Vehicle steering and suspension systems
- Transmission systems and driveline components
- Vehicle electrical and electronic studies
- General automotive systems and diagnostics
You’ll also have the opportunity to:

Open Events at Newham CollegeEntry requirements
- GCSE profile: Minimum 4 GCSEs at grades 9–3 (or equivalent), including English and maths at grade 3 or above; or successful completion of a related Level 1 qualification.
- Initial assessment and interview: You’ll complete an English and maths assessment and take part in an interview to confirm the right starting level for your study programme.
- English and maths during your course: If you haven’t yet achieved grade 4 in English and/or maths, you’ll continue studying these alongside your main qualification.
- Suitability: Positive attitude to learning, regular attendance, and the ability to work safely and professionally with others.
- Placement checks (if required): For courses that include a work placement, a DBS check may be required by the placement provider.
- Strong practical skills and problem-solving in workshop settings.
How much will this course cost?
This course is free for students aged 16-18. The course fee for adults (19+) is TBC.
