Level 3 T-Level - Education and Childcare
Course content
Prepare for a rewarding career working with children and young people through this Level 3 T Level in Education and Childcare. Designed with employers, this two-year course combines classroom study with a substantial industry placement to help you gain the skills, knowledge and experience needed to progress into early years, teaching or education-related roles.
We offer two specialist pathways — Early Years and Assisting Teaching:
- The Early Years pathway provides a licence to practise, enabling you to work as a qualified Early Years Educator or manage an Early Years setting.
- The Assisting Teaching pathway prepares you for a career as a Teaching Assistant in primary or secondary schools.
During the course, you’ll explore topics such as:
- Understanding the education and childcare sector (ages 0–19)
- Child development and learning theories
- Safeguarding, health and safety, and wellbeing
- Managing behaviour in educational settings
- Observation, assessment and planning for individual needs
- Equality, diversity and inclusion in education
- Special educational needs and disability (SEND)
You’ll also have the opportunity to:
- Support children and young people’s learning and development in real work settings
- Work collaboratively with parents, carers and multi-agency professionals
- Develop communication, leadership and reflective practice skills
- Complete a substantial industry placement (minimum of 750 hours)
- Participate in enrichment activities and professional development sessions
- Progress to university or employment in roles such as Early Years Educator, Teaching Assistant or Education Support Worker

Entry requirements
- GCSE profile: Minimum 5 GCSEs at grades 9–4 (or equivalent), including English Language and Maths at grade 4 or above; or successful completion of a related Level 2 qualification (normally at Merit or above, where specified).
- Initial assessment and interview: You’ll complete any required assessments and attend an interview to confirm the right starting level.
- Suitability: Positive attitude, strong attendance, and the ability to work safely and professionally with others.
- English and Maths:Applicants who meet all other requirements but do not yet have the required English or Maths grade may still be considered for a place, on the condition that they study and achieve this qualification alongside their main course. Final decisions are made by the senior course leader..
