Course content

Psychology is the scientific study of the mind and behaviour. This course explores how people think, feel and act — both individually and within groups. You’ll examine key debates such as whether our behaviour is shaped by nature or nurture, how mental disorders can be treated, and what drives human relationships, emotion and decision-making.

Key topics include:

  • Social influence – why people conform and obey
  • Attachment and early development
  • Psychopathology – causes and treatments of phobias, depression and OCD
  • Approaches in psychology
  • Biopsychology – the brain, nervous system and ‘fight or flight’ response
  • Human behaviour – aggression, eating behaviour and relationships
  • Research methods and data analysis

You will:

  • Explore real-world topics such as mental health, social behaviour and online relationships
  • Understand the links between psychology and science
  • Design, conduct and analyse your own practical research
  • Use statistics to test and interpret data
  • Develop strong analytical and critical thinking skills
  • Apply psychological theories to real-life examples and case studies
