Course content

The course has 8 units to be completed, including Protection and Safeguarding, Childminding and Child Development. It also includes overall knowledge about Communication and Equality and Inclusion. Case studies are used to demonstrate the application of knowledge.

This is an assignment based qualification. All assignments are internally and externally assessed through a range of assessment methods. Examples of assessments methods used on this programme include observations, presentations, reports, posters and essays.

Flexibility is provided for any learner with SEN; support is available from the SEN team. The maintenance of high standards is our priority, in order to make the lessons interesting and stimulating for all learners.

As part of the programme, you will conduct a two-week work placement in a Health and Social Care environment. This will allow you to apply your theoretical knowledge into a practical work setting.

Enrichment activities

A range of Enrichment activities are incorporated within the programme. Examples of Enrichment activities conducted are sports activities, workshops, outings and debates. There is also the opportunity to request other enrichment activities that you have an interest in.

I-Learning Sessions

This is additional time embedded in your programme for independent study. This time is used to work through assignments, complete homework activities and conduct wider reading and research to assist learning.

Support Tutorials

Group and one to one tutorials are set up on the programme to further assist you with successfully completing the course. Support tutorials are at flexible times to meet your needs.

Personal Learning Plan Sessions

A course tutor will be allocated to you on the programme. Your course tutor will be working with you to set realistic targets that will enable you to achieve. Your targets will be monitored weekly by your tutor

Entry requirements

You will require a minimum of 4 GCSEs at grade 9-3 including English and Maths and/or equivalent

An Initial Diagnostic Assessment has to be completed before you are enrolled; you need to achieve Level 1 English, diagnostic 60% or above to be accepted on to the Level 2 course. This is to ensure you are put on the right course at the right level.

How much will this course cost?

This course is free for students aged 16-18. The course fee for adults (19+) is TBC.
