About the course

This course is ideal if you are interested in how digital systems, software and data shape the modern world and want to develop the knowledge and skills needed for a career in the IT and digital sector.

During the programme, you will build a strong understanding of information technology while developing practical technical skills through project-based learning. You will explore how IT supports organisations across a wide range of industries, from business and finance to healthcare, education and digital services.

The course combines theoretical learning with practical activities, helping you develop problem-solving, analytical and communication skills that are valued by employers and universities.

During the course, you’ll explore topics such as:

Entry requirements

Entry requirements

  • GCSE profile: Minimum 5 GCSEs at grades 9–4 (or equivalent), including English Language and Maths at grade 4 or above; or successful completion of a related Level 2 qualification (normally at Merit or above, where specified).
  • Initial assessment and interview: You’ll complete any required assessments and attend an interview to confirm the right starting level.
  • Suitability: Positive attitude, strong attendance, and the ability to work safely and professionally with others.
  • English and Maths: Applicants who meet all other requirements but do not yet have the required English or Maths grade may still be considered for a place, on the condition that they study and achieve this qualification alongside their main course. Final decisions are made by the senior course leader.
  • Additional: Strong interest in digital technology, problem-solving and the use of software and online systems is recommended.

Progression

Courses:

  • Higher National Certificate (HNC) or Higher National Diploma (HND) in Computing or Information Technology
  • University degrees such as Information Technology, Computer Science, Cyber Security or Business Information Systems
  • Higher Technical Qualifications (HTQs) in Digital or Computing

Other:

  • Higher or Degree Apprenticeships in IT, Digital Support or Cyber Security
  • Employment in roles such as IT Support Technician, Digital Applications Assistant or Junior Systems Analyst
  • Progression into specialist digital sectors including software, networking, cyber security and data services
