About the course

This course is designed for students who are interested in developing practical skills in fashion, textiles and garment construction. You will explore creative design processes while learning how garments and textile products are created within the fashion industry.

The course combines practical studio work with creative design development, allowing you to experiment with fabrics, materials and techniques while developing your own design ideas. You will build a portfolio of work that demonstrates your creativity and technical skills.

Entry requirements

  • GCSE profile: Minimum 4 GCSEs at grades 9–3 (or equivalent), including English and maths at grade 3 or above; or successful completion of a related Level 1 qualification.
  • Initial assessment and interview: You’ll complete an English and maths assessment and take part in an interview to confirm the right starting level for your study programme.
  • English and maths during your course: If you haven’t yet achieved grade 4 in English and/or maths, you’ll continue studying these alongside your main qualification.
  • Suitability: Positive attitude to learning, regular attendance, and the ability to work safely and professionally with others.
  • Placement checks (if required): For courses that include a work placement, a DBS check may be required by the placement provider.
  • Commitment to professional presentation; portfolio evidence helpful.
