About the course
This Higher National Certificate in Engineering is designed for adults who want to develop higher-level technical knowledge and practical engineering skills. It supports learners progressing from Level 3 study, apprenticeships, employment or relevant industry experience.
You will build a strong grounding in engineering principles, systems and professional practice. The course combines academic study with practical, work-related assignments that help you apply engineering knowledge to real technical problems.

Entry requirements
- Qualification profile: GCSE English, maths and science at grade 4/C or above, or equivalent, plus a relevant Level 3 qualification.
- Vocational route: BTEC Level 3 Diploma or Extended Diploma in Engineering, normally with the profile set by the college.
- UCAS profile: Level 3 qualifications equivalent to the required UCAS tariff may be considered.
- Adult learner route: relevant engineering experience, professional qualifications or prior learning may be considered.
- English language: applicants whose first language is not English may need to demonstrate English language ability, for example IELTS 5.5 overall with reading and writing at 5.5, or equivalent.
- Interview: you will attend an interview and may complete an assessment to confirm suitability for higher-level study.
