About the course

This course is ideal if you enjoy being creative and want to explore different forms of art and design. It provides a practical introduction to the creative industries while helping you develop your artistic skills and confidence.

During the course, you will experiment with a range of materials, techniques and creative processes. You will develop ideas, learn how artists and designers work, and begin building a portfolio of work that shows your creative development.

The course combines practical studio activities with research and experimentation, helping you develop creativity, visual communication and problem-solving skills.

Entry requirements

  • GCSE profile: Minimum 5 GCSEs at grades 9–5 (or equivalent), including English Language and Maths.
  • Initial assessment and interview: You will attend an interview to confirm the course is the right academic pathway for you.
  • Suitability: Interest in media, communication and digital platforms, with the ability to analyse and discuss ideas.
  • English and Maths: Applicants who meet all other requirements but do not yet have the required English or Maths grade may still be considered for a place, on the condition that they study and achieve this qualification alongside their main course. Final decisions are made by the senior course leader.
  • Additional: Strong written communication and analytical skills are recommended for this course.

Progression

Courses:

  • University degrees such as Media Studies, Film Production, Journalism, Digital Media or Communications
  • Higher National Certificate (HNC) or Higher National Diploma (HND) in Media or Creative Media Production
  • Specialist creative degrees in film, television, marketing or digital media

Other:

  • Apprenticeships in media production, digital marketing or content creation
  • Employment in areas such as media production, journalism, advertising or social media management
  • Freelance opportunities in content creation, video production or digital media
