About the course

This course is ideal if you are interested in how things work and want to develop practical skills in engineering and technology. It provides an introduction to the engineering sector and the basic principles used across different engineering industries.

During the course, you will explore a range of engineering activities while developing practical workshop skills. You will learn how to work safely with tools, equipment and materials while gaining an understanding of mechanical, electrical and electronic systems.

The course combines hands-on workshop activities with classroom learning, helping you develop problem-solving, teamwork and technical skills while preparing you for further study in engineering.

Entry requirements

Entry requirements

  • GCSE profile: Minimum 4 GCSEs at grades 9–3 (or equivalent), including English and Maths at grade 3 or above; or successful completion of a relevant Entry Level qualification.
  • Initial assessment and interview: You will complete an English and maths assessment and attend an interview to confirm the right starting level.
  • Suitability: Interest in engineering, technology and practical problem-solving, with a willingness to take part in workshop activities.
  • English and Maths: Applicants who meet all other requirements but do not yet have the required English or Maths grade may still be considered for a place, on the condition that they study and achieve this qualification alongside their main course. Final decisions are made by the senior course leader.
  • Additional: Interest in maths, science and practical technical work is recommended.

This course is free for students aged 16-18. The course fee for adults (19+) is TBC.
