This course is ideal if you’re interested in a career in medical or applied sciences and want a practical, career-focused alternative to traditional A Levels. You’ll explore scientific principles, laboratory techniques and the real-world applications of science within health and medical contexts.

Entry requirements
- GCSE profile: Minimum of 5 GCSEs with an average grade of 4 or above.
- Subject-specific grades: English Language and Mathematics at grade 4, and Combined Science at grade 4–4 (or equivalent Triple Science grades).
- Vocational route: Students currently studying a Level 2 vocational qualification must have achieved at least a Merit in a related subject.
- Ongoing English and Maths: You may be able to retake one GCSE in English or Maths alongside your Extended Diploma if you have not yet achieved a grade 4.
- Suitability: Ideal for students with an interest in biology, chemistry, physics or applied scientific study who wish to progress to higher education or science-related careers.
Progression
Successful completion of this course can lead to university-level study in subjects such as Biomedical Science, Forensic Science, Nursing, or Environmental Science, or to employment as a Science Technician or Laboratory Assistant.
Graduates may pursue careers in research, healthcare, or education, where strong practical and analytical skills are valued.
Please note: This qualification does not provide the entry requirements needed to study Medicine at university.
