About the course

Start your journey into the automotive industry with this hands-on Level 1 Motor Vehicle course. You’ll gain a strong introduction to vehicle maintenance, repair techniques and workshop practices, developing the technical and problem-solving skills needed to progress to higher levels of study or an apprenticeship.

During the course, you’ll explore topics such as:

  • Routine vehicle maintenance and inspection
  • Identifying and repairing chassis system faults
  • Diagnosing and fixing electrical and auxiliary faults
  • Developing safe and effective hand-tool skills

Entry requirements

  • GCSE profile: Minimum 4 GCSEs at grades 9–2 (or equivalent), including English and maths at grade 2 or above; or successful completion of a related Entry Level 3 programme.
  • Initial assessment: You’ll complete an English and maths assessment so we can confirm the right starting level for your study programme.
  • Suitability: A positive attitude to learning, good attendance record and the ability to work with others. For people-facing or presentation-based courses, we also expect good communication and professional personal presentation. Awareness of health and safety and readiness for practical workshop learning.
  • Ongoing English and maths: You’ll continue to study English and/or maths if you have not yet achieved grade 4.
  • Additional checks (where relevant): For courses with work placements (e.g., childcare/health), a DBS check may be required by the placement provider.

How much will this course cost?

This course is free for students aged 16-18. The course fee for adults (19+) is TBC.
