Course content

The introduction to solar photovoltaic installer course delivers the basic knowledge, skills and competency required to design, install, commission, and maintain domestic and commercial solar PV systems.

During the course, you will receive practical training, including work on purpose-built solar pv rigs, featuring different types of modules, inverters, and roof mounting kits. Live equipment within a fully functioning plant room.

You will also cover theory relating to health and safety, industry regulations and best-practice. This solar PV installation course covers the basics of the installation and maintenance of solar photovoltaic systems, including:

  • Regulations and standards.
  • Health and safety considerations.
  • AC and DC theory.
  • PV cell types - their features and benefits.
  • PV external and internal site survey requirements.
  • Solar PV circuit design.
  • PV system design and integration, setting to work and commissioning, and solar PV servicing and fault finding.

Entry requirements

Please be prepared to provide your residency documents such as a passport, EU citizen ID card, UK Birth Certificate or Biometric Card. If you have been in the UK for less than 1 years or have entered the UK with a visa you will need to provide evidence that you are eligible to study in the UK - your visa, your biometric card that covers the duration of your course or any relevant home office documents to support your residency should all be provided. If you’re an EU, EEA or Swiss citizen we will need to see evidence of 'Pre-Settled' or 'Settled status' documents. Also for funding purposes we would need to see evidence of payslips if working (within the last 3 months). If you are receiving benefits (e.g JSA, ESA, Universal Credit (UC), Housing benefits etc. please provide evidence of this).

PPE Equipment Required

Due to the nature of the courses face to face delivery may be required in the workshop this will include working with sharp tools and heavy materials at times, no training shoes will be permitted. Steel toe capped/ safety boots are advised for footwear and legs should be covered at all times while practical working is taking place.
