Access to Higher Education: Engineering Science and Maths - September 2025
Course content
On this course, you will learn and develop an understanding of the two branches of mechanics: statics and dynamics. In statics, you will study the equilibrium of particles and rigid bodies while in dynamics, you will study the concepts of kinematics (linear and non-linear motion) and kinetics (Newtonian mechanics, work, energy and power).
You will also study engineering design using CAD as well as electrical circuits. You will also study the advanced mathematics required to grasp a fundamental understanding of the theory of engineering (algebra, calculus, trigonometry, matrices, logarithms and exponentials, series, complex numbers, statistics, co-ordinate geometry and vectors). In addition, you will develop the skills that are required for success in higher education. You will also receive advice and guidance while completing your UCAS application to study at university.
The course is taught in a variety of ways, including theoretical and practical sessions, assignments and group work. Most units are assessed via exams, allowing you to gain relevant preparation for university. You will be continually assessed throughout the year.
